Willowpark Primary Academy

Homework

At Willowpark Primary Academy homework is set by class teachers and sent out at the beginning of every half term.

Homework is project based, children are given a range of activities to choose from, which will be linked to the topic children are working on in class.

Examples might include designing a poster, writing a leaflet or creating a model. You might be challenged to visit somewhere new or to interview family and friends on a specific topic. Homework is then returned to school at the end of the half term then shared, celebrated and rewarded with the rest of the class. These learning challenges are a great way to get all the family involved.

In addition to half termly challenges, all children are sent home with year group specific spellings to learn each week. Reading should happen every night and parents are asked to sign children’s reading records when they have read at home.

Homework may be set using our range of online resources such as Seesaw, Purple Mash, Spelling Shed, TT Rockstars and our online reading resources - MyOn (KS2) and Bug Club (EYFS/KS1)

Home Learning

As part of our Homework and home learning offer at Willowpark, we use a variety of online tools and resources to set, support and mark children's work and ensure they continue to make progress in all aspects of their learning.  The programmes currently used within school are:

Seesaw

This is our online learning journal for students in Years 1-6.  Children will complete home learning tasks in the event of a pod closure or periods where students need to isolate. Homework and extension tasks may also be set on here. Seesaw allows teachers to give instant feedback of children's work once it has been uploaded to their journal and allows teachers, parents and children to add to their learning journal and celebrate successes with us.

Purple Mash

Purple Mash is used regularly in school with students to support their learning within computing and the wider curriculum. This is available to students from Nursery- Year 6 and teachers are able to set 'To do's' for pupils in their classes, which children can tackle, submit and receive feedback on.

MyOn

MyOn is an online reading resource linked to the reading scheme we use in school.  it is available to children in Year 3-6.

As it is an online resource, it allows children to have access to a wide range of texts, genres and styles of books that they can choose from or have set for them by their class teachers.  It allows us to track progress and time spent reading and means that children have the best chance of 'staying on track' even when working at home.

Bug Club

Bug Club is an online early reading resource linked to the reading and phonics scheme we use in school.  It is available to children in Nursery - Year 2.  As Bug Club is an online resource, it allows children to have access to a wide range of books that are pitched at the correct level for their reading ability.  The programme allows teacher to track reading  and ensure that children continue to progress even when working at home. And of course it allows us to challenge children with lots of daily reading challenges!

TT Rockstars

TT Rockstars is a popular online APP used for securing children's knowledge and application of their times tables.

Chilldren in Year 1-6 have access to TT rockstars and we regularly have 'battles' between phase classes which get very competitive!  This resource allows pupils to retain and improve their basic mental maths key skills with times tables and remain at the top of their game!  It also allows teachers to set specific questions and Times tables for pupils to practise based on their assessments in class. And of course ...it is great fun!

Spelling Shed

Spelling shed is a resource that enables children to work on their non negotiable spellings and age related spelling lists.  There are tasks and games available for children to test their spelling talents and work on those spelling patterns that might be tricky for them. Again, teachers are able to monitor use, progress and success rate of pupils within their to ensure that children are continually challenged!

Language Angels

This resource allows our pupils to continue their learning in French. This resource can  be used alongside weekly lessons delivered by Madame Fletcher and will allow students to stay on top their learning and progress within their Modern Foreign Language lessons.  This is available to pupils in Years 3-6
